Barcelona ace Lionel Messi has revealed his secret to success stems from his ability to play like he did when he was a child.

The 23-year-old Argentina international, who has hit an incredible 29 goals in 28 league games this term, says the way he plays football has remained unchanged over the years.

"I hope never to get injured and I do everything through instinct, I play like a child," he told Sette magazine.

"I think about myself on a small pitch or in the road, I see myself with the football in the same way as I am now.

"I have not changed at all. You must remember football is a game to have fun and you play for that. I don't plan or anticipate my play."

Messi explained his goal celebrations when he is often seen pointing towards the sky.

"It's for my grandmother as I would have loved for her to see where I am now," he said. "I think she can see me from up above."

Barca meet Shakhtar Donetsk in their Champions League quarter-final, second-leg match at the Donbass Arena later tonight.

The Blaugrana are 5-1 up on aggregate and could face Real Madrid in the semi-finals if both teams go through.
